Athletics Roundup: Women’s Tennis Excels at ITA Southeast Regional Championships; Volleyball Shines at Showdown on the Wabash Tournament
The Wallace State Women’s Tennis team delivered impressive performances at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships, held at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville from Sept. 27-29. With standout showings in both singles and doubles play, the Lady Lions secured multiple titles and set the stage for future national competition.
Athletics Roundup: Volleyball Sweeps Bevill State and Lawson State, Men’s Golf Sixth in Dan York Tournament, Men’s and Women’s Tennis Open Home Season Against Itawamba
The Wallace State Volleyball team continued their strong start to the season with a sweep of Bevill State at home on Sept. 11. The Lady Lions posted a 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-5, 25-14 and 25-13, further improving their record and showcasing their depth in front of a home crowd.
The Wallace State Men’s Golf team showcased solid performances at the Dan York Memorial Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., finishing sixth overall in a competitive field.
Wallace State’s Tennis teams delivered strong performances in their first home matches against Itawamba Community College on Sept. 11.
Six Wallace State Teams Earn NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Honors
Six athletic teams at Wallace State Community College have been honored with NJCAA Academic Team of the Year designations for the 2023-2024 academic year. This recognition highlights the commitment to academic excellence demonstrated by these teams in their respective sports.
More than 100 student athletes named on ACCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll
More than 100 student athletes from all 12 sports teams at Wallace State Community College were recognized by the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) for academic achievement by being named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2024 semester.
“These student-athletes and teams should be extremely proud of themselves, as they have balanced academics with practice and games,” said Commissioner Dean Myrick. “I am very proud of them, along with the faculty and staff at our amazing colleges for the work they do in preparing our student-athletes for life outside of athletics.”
Additionally, eight Wallace State teams were recognized for collectively achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2023-2024 academic year. They include Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf, Softball, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis and Volleyball.
Wallace State women’s tennis 9th in the nation, men finish 16th
Wallace State Community College’s women’s tennis team finished 9th in the nation after competing at the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s National Tournament recently in Tyler, Texas, and the men finished 16th at the 2024 NJCAA Men’s National Tournament in Plano, Texas.
