Wallace State Cross Country Teams Achieve Second-Place National Rankings in USTFCCCA Polls
Both Wallace State’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams have earned top five national rankings in the Week 1 NJCAA Division II National Coaches’ Poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), with both teams securing second place spots. The men’s team set a program-best after moving up six places from the preseason poll and earning one first-place vote. The women’s team matched its highest-ever ranking, jumping five spots and collecting two first-place votes.

WSCC Athletics Roundup: Volleyball Goes 6-1 in Seven-Match Run, Cross Country Teams Finish Top Five at Montevallo Falcon Classic
The Wallace State Volleyball team completed a seven-match stretch, going 6-1 overall, with six of those matches taking place at home as part of the Alabama/Mississippi Crossover Battle Tournament hosted by Wallace State Community College. The Lady Lions kicked off the week with a 3-1 victory against Gadsden State Community College on Sept. 4 before opening their home season at the Crossover Battle tournament, where they claimed five wins in six matches at Traditions Bank Arena in Tom Drake Coliseum.

WSCC Athletics Roundup: Cross Country Teams Shine at JSU Foothills Invitational; Volleyball Wins Away Matches
The Wallace State Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams delivered strong performances at the 18th Annual JSU Foothills Invitational on Aug. 30 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford. Competing against a deep field, the men’s team secured a fourth place finish out of 19 teams, while the women’s team claimed eighth place out of 20 teams in their respective 5K races. The Wallace State Volleyball team claimed a victory against Cleveland State Community College on Aug. 29.

The Wallace State Men's and Women's Cross Country teams are set to kick off their season with a blend of new energy and established tradition. Tony Crider has stepped into the role of head coach to lead a men’s team with eight conference championships and a women’s team with five, including a sweep of the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) meets in 2020.

Six athletic teams at Wallace State Community College have been honored with NJCAA Academic Team of the Year designations for the 2023-2024 academic year. This recognition highlights the commitment to academic excellence demonstrated by these teams in their respective sports.

More than 100 student athletes named on ACCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll
More than 100 student athletes from all 12 sports teams at Wallace State Community College were recognized by the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) for academic achievement by being named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2024 semester. “These student-athletes and teams should be extremely proud of themselves, as they have balanced academics with practice and games,” said Commissioner Dean Myrick. “I am very proud of them, along with the faculty and staff at our amazing colleges for the work they do in preparing our student-athletes for life outside of athletics.” Additionally, eight Wallace State teams were recognized for collectively achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2023-2024 academic year. They include Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf, Softball, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis and Volleyball.
