Wallace State to Host Inaugural Lion Athletics Benefit Dinner on August 26

Wallace State Community College is proud to announce the inaugural Wallace State Athletics Benefit Dinner, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025. This event, presented by Traditions Bank, will celebrate the launch of the Lion Athletics Fund, a new initiative dedicated to enhancing the student-athlete experience across all athletic programs at Wallace State.

The Lions' men's golf team, coming off a first-place finish at the ACCC Championship, finished fourth at the Southeast District Championship held at Ol' Colony Golf Complex in Tuscaloosa.

The Wallace State Men’s Golf team competed in the ACCC Conference Tournament held at Cherokee Ridge Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. The Lions finished the tournament as conference champions under first-year head coach Kayland Wilson.

Wallace State Community College Athletics had 116 Student-Athletes across all 12 sports teams named to the 2024 Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Fall Semester. Standards for the Honor Roll require student athletes to achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout the course of the semester.

The Wallace State Volleyball team earned a commanding 3-0 victory over Snead State Community College on Oct. 15, with set scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-15. The Lady Lions were dominant both offensively and defensively throughout the match.

Sophomore Cole Lindeman of Priceville was named as the Men?s Golf Player of the Week and freshman Rachel Mecklenburg of Madison was named as Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week by the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC).

The Wallace State Men’s Golf team continued their strong season with a second-place finish at the Calhoun Fall Invitational, hosted by Calhoun Community College at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, on Oct. 6-8. The Wallace State Volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Lawson State Community College on Oct. 9, with set scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-18. The Lady Lions delivered a balanced attack, with multiple players making key contributions.

Wallace State Community College hosted the Fall Bash Volleyball Tournament over the weekend, welcoming teams to campus for a packed slate of matches. The Wallace State Volleyball team competed in five games, earning three victories, including a 3-0 sweep over Walters State Community College on Sept. 21 to close out the tournament. The Wallace State Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams both delivered fourth-place finishes at the UT Southern Firehawk Invitational held at Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Moulton on Sept. 21. Wallace State earned a second place finish this week at the Chuck Kalanick Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by Snead State Community College at Cherokee Ridge Country Club.

The Wallace State Volleyball team continued their strong start to the season with a sweep of Bevill State at home on Sept. 11. The Lady Lions posted a 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-5, 25-14 and 25-13, further improving their record and showcasing their depth in front of a home crowd. The Wallace State Men’s Golf team showcased solid performances at the Dan York Memorial Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., finishing sixth overall in a competitive field. Wallace State’s Tennis teams delivered strong performances in their first home matches against Itawamba Community College on Sept. 11.

Wallace State Men’s Golf Opens Season Under Leadership of Kayland Wilson

The Wallace State men’s golf fall season gets underway this week under the leadership of new head coach Kayland Wilson. Wilson comes to Wallace State after serving as the head coach for the men’s and women’s golf teams at Faulkner University. In the 2021-2022 season, she led the men’s team to a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) title, becoming the first female head coach in any sport and at any level to win a men’s conference title. That year, she was also named the SSAC Men’s Golf Coach of the Year.

More than 100 student athletes from all 12 sports teams at Wallace State Community College were recognized by the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) for academic achievement by being named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2024 semester. “These student-athletes and teams should be extremely proud of themselves, as they have balanced academics with practice and games,” said Commissioner Dean Myrick. “I am very proud of them, along with the faculty and staff at our amazing colleges for the work they do in preparing our student-athletes for life outside of athletics.” Additionally, eight Wallace State teams were recognized for collectively achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2023-2024 academic year. They include Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf, Softball, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis and Volleyball.

Wallace State Men’s Golf 19th in nation; women’s Aidan Haithcock 22nd in nation

Wallace State Community College men’s golf finished the season No. 19 in the nation after their appearance at the 2024 National Junior College (NJCAA) Division I Men’s National Championship at Rockwind Community Links Golf Club in Hobbs, NM. Wallace State golfer Aidan Haithcock of Homewood finished 22nd in the nation individually at the NJCAA DI Women’s National Championship. In four rounds of play she came in +4 in the first and final rounds, +6 in the second round and was even for the third round.

Men’s Golf Battles Back to Take Second Place in ACCC Region 22 Tournament

Wallace State Community College men’s golf pushed through the final round of play at the Alabama Community College Conference Region 22 championship to take second place in the tournament. The Lions entered the day in sixth place when they hit the links at Limestone Springs Golf Course.
